Product Description

White Willendorf Goddess

7 inches tall

White resin

Venus of Willendorf, also known as the Woman of Willendorf, is a paleolithic statuette of a female figure. It was discovered in 1908 by archaeologist Josef Szombathy at a paleolithic site near Willendorf, a village in Lower Austria near the city of Krems. It is carved from an oolitic limestone that is not local to the area, and tinted with red ochre. It is estimated to have been carved 24,000–22,000 BCE.

Since this figure's discovery and naming, several similar statuettes and other forms of art have been discovered. They are collectively referred to as Venus figurines.  These figurines point to a Goddess oriented culture from pre-history, and probably show an emphasis on fertility and abundance.

White resin statue on base.  7 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide and 2 inches deep.
