Anubis (Egyptian Anpu) is the God of the Underworld, Embalming and Cemeteries. He is also Guardian and Guide of the Dead. Usually depicted as a desert hound, Anubis often has a jackal's head or is shown as a full-bodied jackal. Being scavengers, jackals are often found in cemeteries or around corpses.
Anubis is God of Embalming and is often depicted as performing the mummification process upon the Pharaoh. He is also present as an underworld guide, and is depicted as presiding over "the weighing of the heart of the dead in the scales of truth" along with the feather of Maat.
Anubis is the son of Nepthys and Ra, but others say his parents are Nepthys and Isis.
