Makko means "incense powder" and comes from the bark of an evergreen tree that grows in Southeast Asia, the Machillus Thunbergii tree. Often Makko is used as a base to smolder incense ingredients over, rather than using charcoal. Makko also acts as a water-soluble adhesive for use in incense stick and cone making, where it burns evenly, increases burn time and is almost completely odorless.
