 |
| (boswellia serrata) |
 |
Other names: Frankincense
Uses: Banishing, consecration, protection, ritual fumigations, divination, exorcism
Associations: Sun, Fire
Aroma: A very clean citrus-orange aroma
Olibanum is similar to Frankincense, but is usually differentiated from it by a distinct orange aroma, as opposed to the Frankincense lemon or lime aroma. Olibanum is called for in many ancient and medieval recipes, and is the most commonly found ingredient in incense blends.
The Kohl substance that ancient Egyptian women used to darken the area around the eyes with was made of charred Frankincense or Olibanum sometimes mixed with other resins and herbs.
This is our best grade of Olibanum from India.
For information on the difference between Frankincense and Olibanum please see our Frankincense v.s. Olibanum page. |
