Osiris (Egyptian Asar, Osar) is the God of the Underworld, and the King after he is dead. He is always human in form, and his body is wrapped in mummy form. His arms hold the scepters of kingship, and his crown, known as the Atef crown, is a tall conical centerpiece with supporting plumes on either side.
Osiris is the firstborn child of Geb (the Earth) and Nut (Nuit, the Sky). His wife and sister is Isis (Aset). His other sister is Nepthys and his brother is Thoth. Later traditions have his brother and sister as the married couple Nepthys and Set. The son of Isis and Osiris is Horus, who is also the living King on Earth.
Osiris is connected with Orion in the Sky, and is connected with the West or the land of the setting Sun, cemeteries, and death. He is the foremost dying-God archetype in the ancient world.
