Gum Ammoniac has a long history as a Jupiter incense. It's name is derived from the latin Ammoniacum, "of Amon". This Amon, Amen, or Amon-Ra was an Egyptian god often equated by the Greeks to Zeus (the Roman Jupiter). Gum Ammoniac was often harvested in ancient times from a place near the Temple of Amen in Libya.
Gum Ammoniac was also used in Medieval and Renissance times in calligraphy to help hold gold to parchment. A wonderful and rare incense which is much underused today. |
