Hermes Statue, bronze (Mercury)
13 inches tall
Hand-painted cold-cast bronze
Born on Mt. Cyllene in Arcadia, Hermes is the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia. Although he is said to be the father of Pan, he has no recognized wife. Known mainly as the messenger of the Gods, especially as the deliverer of messages from Zeus, he can fly around the world in an instant with his winged feet. Hermes is the guide of travellers and shepherds, and he was taught the Art of Divination by Apollo.
In addition to his role as messenger and traveller, Hermes is also cunning and skilled in the sciences and in the Art of Magic, often using his powers for mischief, illusion and mystery. He prefers persuasion and trickery to war, and can put people to sleep or call up shades out of Hades. As a psychopompos, he can also act as a guide to the dead or those lost in the underworld of Hades.
Known as Mercury to the Romans, his attributes are the Caduceus wand (now associated with medicine), the traveler's hat (sometimes with wings), and winged sandals.
High quality hand-painted cold-cast bronze statue. 13 inches tall, 6 inches wide and 7 inches deep.
