Demeter Goddess Oil

made by Sun's Eye

Unit size: 1/2 fluid ounce

Demeter Goddess Oil by Sun's Eye contains Peppermint Leaf in essential and fragrance oils which combine for a sweet, exotic uplifting aroma with spicy notes.

Demeter (Roman Ceres) is the Goddess of Corn and Grain, and her epithet "blond Demeter" refers to the flowing fields of her golden grain.

Demeter's daughter by Zeus is Persephone (Roman Proserpina or Proserpine) was often called simply Kore, or "the girl" in Greek.  This mother and daughter were so closely linked that they were often simply referred to as "the Two Goddesses".  Demeter is the Goddess of vegetation in general and its growth and harvesting, while Persephone is the new growth of the little buds coming out of the Earth.

The myth of the abduction of Persephone by Hades is well renowned.  Hades (Roman Pluto) was the son of Chronos and Rhea and was known as The Lord of the Dead, for he ruled the Underworld and all of its inhabitants.  He was a co-ruler of the world along with Poseidon who ruled the oceans and Zeus who ruled the sky.

One day while Persephone was picking flowers in a meadow Hades abducted her and stole her away to the Underworld.  Demeter soon discovered that her daughter was missing and went on a frantic search for her.  When she could not find her, she withdrew her powers of fertility from the earth, which caused all of the plants to stop growing.  The people of the world began to starve, so Zeus soon intervened.  Demeter would not listen to his messages, so Zeus sent Hermes to the Underworld to ask that Hades release Persephone.  Hades agreed to release Persephone, but before doing so he tricked Persephone into eating some Pomegranate seeds which caused her to not be able to leave the Underworld ever again.  A compromise was then struck so that Persephone would spend half of the year in the Underworld with her new husband Hades, and the other half with her mother Demeter.  This compromise of Persephone is sometimes used as an explanation for the changing of the seasons and the growing and dying of plants.  She is both the new-born plants breaking through the earth in Springtime, and Queen of the Dead in the underworld during Winter.

For centuries, a body of traditional knowledge has existed about the use of herbs to attract and extend vibrational qualities.  Sun's Eye Oils are made from aromatic herbs, blossoms, leaves, spices, woods, resins and essentials.  They frequently add dried herbs to their mother batches so that all of their oils maintain vibrational integrity.  When a carrier base is required, they use soybean.

Scent is the most enduring of our senses. It commands our attention. It bonds us to our past through our memories. It flavors the atmosphere to suit our moods and intentions. It lifts our spirits and elevates vibrations.  It affects our behavior, our appetites and our thoughts. Fragrance comforts, heals and links us to imagination and romance. It is a bridge between reality and fantasy, the material and the astral worlds.

To practice aromatherapy you will need an aroma lamp or oil diffuser.  Simply add water to the bowl, along with a few drops of your favorite oil, and then use a tealite to heat the bowl which diffuses your favorite aroma throughout the room. This Sun's Eye pure oil is for aromatherapy use only.  Not 100% essential oil.  May contain a carrier oil.
