In Greek Myth, the Pomegranate was given to humans as a gift from Immortal Zeus, as a reward for their devotion to him. It's seeds were given to Persephone by Hades so that she would return to the underworld for three months of each year, causing winter above. Some believe that the Tree of Life in Jewish myth was in fact a pomegranate, while others think that Eve ate not an Apple, but a Pomegranate. The Bedouins believe that the Pomegranate tree frightens evil spirits, and that one may sleep in safety under it. In India the rind (called Malicorium) is used to treat diarrhea and chronic dysentery.
