Indian Spikenard or Muskroot has been used since ancient times as a perfume and medicine in India and the Far East.  It was considered a luxury in ancient Egypt, the Near East, and Rome, where it was the main ingredient of a perfume called nardinum. Nard is a flowering plant of the Valerian family that grows in the Himalayas of Nepal, China, and India. It is used in the manufacture of an intensely aromatic amber-colored essential oil. The oil has been used as a perfume, as a medicine and in religious contexts, particularly in connection with historical Judaism. The Bible contains several references to the spikenard, and it is used in Catholic iconography to represent Saint Joseph. With this meaning, Pope Francis has included the spikenard in his coat of arms.

  1. Good and musky 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Aug 2019

Musky root but not too strong of an aroma. I was surprised how easy it is to powder in a food processor, then fine sift. It appears to contain some mica flakes embedded in the root hairs - likely hard to wash out when they were processed from the field but not an issue since its not combustible. Overall an excellent addition to an incense blend.

I ordered "spikenard" from another incense supplier which was nothing like this. This is the REAL deal. Order was processed and shipped quickly and well packaged.
