Asafoetida, raw chunk resin
Ferula foetida

This is pure, raw food-grade Asafoetida, and therefore extremely rare. We import this directly from India ourselves. It contains no extra ingredients or additives of any sort. Because of this it clumps into hard blocks. You may need to put it in a bag and use a hammer to get it into small usable pieces!
Asafoetida is one of those acquired smells that you either love or hate. Many think that it is awful the first time one smells it, but it has underlying tones that will grow on you in peculiar ways. This Asafoetida is the very pure and clean smelling. This Asafoetida Powder comes from India.
Asafoetida is a common ingredient in Indian and Middle-Eastern cooking. This raw Asafoetida is herb grade and safe for cooking.

Outstanding!

Deliciously stinky, imparts that delightlful flavor. Very potent, I shave it and experiment with different methods of itegration. Seems to work well in hot water as well as hot oil. Have used in water to season broth, water to make rice, pasta, boil potatoes etc. highly reccomend and will purchase again!!!

I have seen,smelled and eaten with asafetida all my life, read about as much as I could, used powder form but never as resin. Finally I got it smells great and I am sure it will be good in dishes. Order was quick except unfortunately I ordered during holidays as it took longer to get due to holidays. I am very happy with the results. Good reliable website.

This is my first order with Soma Luna and my first experience with using pure hing. Everything about this order was amazing. The order was filled & shipped immediately. The hing is so strong, I could smell it through the zip-lock double-bagging and the manila shipping envelope! I have used it one time so far - for cooking - and am exceedingly impressed with its richness.
All in all, an experience worth repeating.

I have been using asafoetida for many years now to prevent the flu virus. I recently ran out and was having a hard time finding this product until I ran across Soma. I ordered and it arrived quickly and is just what I ordered.

It smells super strong and works very well to clear spaces and people of any negative energies. It came in very large chunks. One bag was just one huge chunk so I had to use a hammer to break it into more manageable pieces for the charcoal. It was sort of messy but manageable to do. The 2 ziplock bags were a good idea to ship in. You need to store in a jar or a plastic tupperware container still as it really really stinks!!! I use it regularly to clear spaces and people so I was happy to find it at such a reasonable price. I typically buy a brand from Yemen and it is very expensive. It smells slightly different but works the same.

This is indeed strong Asafoetida and will knock your socks off.
It came in a ziplock, but the ziplock could not contain the strong aroma. That is how potent and genuine this product is. When I opened my mail box the aroma hit my nose and made me feel queezy. The aroma is so strong it permeated the ziplock and other packaging. I had to place the ziplock with the product in a small air tight jar and then discard the packaging outdoors. I have never used Asafortida before and wanted to try it as a spice instead of using garlic and onions. I made a curry last evening and used a "tiny pinch" of the Asafoetida and it gave the sauce a richer and more complex flavor. If you wanted to clear a room full of people you could put a piece of the Asafoetida in the room. I read where they use to wear Asaforeida in an amulet around their neck in old times to prevent the flu or illness. This stuff is so strong it will keep demons away, maybe even SATAN him self!
I am very satisfied with this product.

we use for other things than charms and cooking or for around the neck . have yet to find the pure stuff until now , as we only could find powder and most of it was mixed with rice flour etc etc and sure was not pure, we use for the smell in another product we make....
