Attributed to Netzach by the Kabbalists, Benzoin Sumatra is the planetary scent of Venus and love. It has been used as a mild antiseptic for skin conditions when mixed with water and applied externally to the area. It has also been used to help bronchitis and lung ailments.
Benzoin Sumatra is a standard classic resin for incense burning. It is smooth, fragrant and puts out a lot of smoke.
There is sometimes some confusion created between the various Benzoin resins (Styrax sp.) and Storax resins (lLquidamber sp.) because of the botanical name "styrax". Modern Storax is considered to be from the Liquidamber species of trees while Ancient Storax or Styrax allegedly came from Styrax officinalis, which is not available in modern times. Often people use Benzoin Sumatra as a substitue for Ancient Styrax.
