Copal is sacred to the indigenous cultures of the Central and South Americas. It is burned year round in the churches in Mexico, but is best known for its use in the homes during Day of the Dead. It is said that the familiar scent of Copal helps the souls find their way back during their annual visit home. The various Copal resins of Mexico and the Americas are closely related to the Copals of Africa and the Damars of India and Indonesia. The American Copals generally have a sweeter aroma.
This high quality Copal from Peru is comparable to the High Quality Copal Blanco, with a bit of Copal Negro.

This is a really great smelling resin! It's grey and murky looking, but has a beautiful rainforest-y wet scent that is similar to copal, but a little smokier and heavier. This is labeled as Peruvian Black Copal, which is another name for it, but it is also called Breuzinho or Breu Claro. If you are looking for the rare Breuzinho resin, THIS IS IT! It's hiding as copal, but I have two other packs of Breu resin from other reliable sellers and this is definitely Breu Claro! Look no further if you've been wanting quality Breu Claro at a great price! There are two different types of Breu, but to me they both smell almost the same. The only difference is one is darker. Both have the same scientific name as far as I'm aware, Protium grandifolium. Sometimes called Breu Claro or Breu Negro. This one seems like a lovely mix of the two. Some pale, almost white pieces, with darker grey pieces. Either way, EXCELLENT rare resin at a superb price.
