beautiful censer, but can't use it with lid

I was excited to get this censer but I became very disappointed when I realized that the lid, which is perforated with holes, giving you the impression that you can burn incense with the lid on and the smoke will go through the holes, in fact just smothers the burning charcoal. I chalk this up to poor design. If there were more ventilation holes or if they were bigger, then it might function the way it's supposed to. As it is, you have to burn the incense without the lid. I've tried everything to get the incense to burn with the lid on and nothing works. The charcoal always goes out.
In addition to this main problem, the brass knob on the lid has a jagged point at the top that should have been filed off. It's also tarnished a bit. I'm still going to use it, but I must say I'm disappointed. It gets 3 stars because in many ways it's still a beautiful censer, and arrived surprisingly quickly, less than two weeks after ordering during the holidays!
